The European PVC cable value chain has launched VinylPlus Cables, a new initiative coordinating activities related to PVC cable systems within the broader VinylPlus framework. VinylPlus Cables builds on the previous PVC4Cables platform organised under the European Council of Vinyl Manufacturers work within the European PVC cable sector and strengthens coordination on technical performance, safety, sustainability and circular economy aspects of PVC cables used in energy, communication and industrial applications.

PVC cable systems are essential to Europe’s electrification and digital infrastructure. Used in power distribution, building installations, renewable energy systems and data transmission, PVC cables offer high insulation performance, durability and reliable operation under demanding conditions. These characteristics make them a key material for safe and efficient energy and communication networks. Through VinylPlus Cables, the European PVC cable value chain will enhance cooperation on topics such as fire safety performance, regulatory compliance, standardisation and lifecycle assessment of cable systems.

The initiative supports the development and dissemination of sound technical knowledge on PVC cable performance, including aspects such as fire behaviour, electrical insulation, durability and long service life. It also contributes to informed discussions on safety and environmental performance through engagement with policymakers, standardisation bodies and technical experts. In addition, VinylPlus Cables monitors regulatory and policy developments affecting the sector and facilitates dialogue with authorities, specifiers, researchers and industry stakeholders to support evidence-based decision-making.

Participation in VinylPlus Cables brings together organisations across the PVC cable value chain, including resin and additive producers, compounders, cable manufacturers, recyclers, machinery suppliers and testing institutes. By coordinating expertise and collaboration across the sector, VinylPlus Cables contributes to responsible production, enhanced safety and circular use of PVC cable systems in Europe. The initiative forms part of the broader VinylPlus commitment to sustainable development, which has guided the European PVC industry for more than two decades through measurable targets, independent monitoring and value-chain collaboration.
