The evolution of grinding in thermoforming

The new TS 30 Series of granulators developed by Tria represents an evolution of the previous TF Series, introducing solutions designed to enhance performance and simplify the daily operations of those working in the thermoforming industry. Specifically engineered to handle freshly thermoformed – and still hot – materials, Tria’s latest granulator stands out for its innovation, efficiency, and user-friendliness. The 30 Series introduces a number of improvements over its predecessor: a modern, functional design, enhanced ergonomics, lower energy consumption, reduced noise levels, and quicker, easier cleaning. Every detail has been carefully considered to optimise operation and minimise machine downtime.
Available in three models – 9030, 12030, and 15030 – the 30 Series is capable of grinding PP, PS, PET, and PLA sheets with widths of up to 1,570 mm, thicknesses up to 2 mm, and draw depths up to 120 mm, regardless of their orientation, delivering an output of up to 1,000 kg per hour. The TS Series can be fed with thermoformed sheets directly, without the need for pre-treatment or volume reduction.

The grinding chamber has been completely redesigned, with increased internal space that ensures better material engagement by the rotating blades. All Tria granulators come equipped as standard with a water-cooling system for the grinding chamber. For the TS Series, this allows for the processing of freshly thermoformed sheets at temperatures of up to 80 °C. The standard Nitox treatment also improves wear resistance, significantly extending the service life of components exposed to mechanical stress.
Soundproofing has also been significantly improved, thanks to the new design of the acoustic enclosure, which shields the moving parts and ensures excellent noise absorption. A notable feature is the hood in front of the main feed opening, which deflects sound downward, thereby lowering the overall noise level of the granulator. This makes the machine suitable for use in operator areas and ensures compliance with regulations in all countries. Compared to the previous series, new anti-slip rollers have been added to improve process reliability and continuity, reducing the need for manual intervention and unplanned stops.
