Lightweight coverall for chemical hazards and flash-fire risks

Tychem 6000 SFR, a lightweight hooded coverall launched by DuPont to protect workers in challenging environments against chemical hazards and flash-fire risks, is now available on the European market. Particularly suitable for environments where combined chemical and flash-fire risks pose a serious hazard, the Tychem 6000 SFR coverall may be used in applications and sectors requiring multi-risk protection, including refineries, petrochemical plants, laboratories and maintenance operations.

Tychem 6000 SFR provides a permeation barrier of up to 30 minutes against more than 250 chemicals, including toxic industrial substances, chemical warfare agents and flammable organic solvents. The coverall also helps provide secondary flame resistance when worn over primary flame-resistant garments, such as those made with DuPont Nomex. In the event of a flash fire, Tychem 6000 SFR does not contribute to additional burn injury when appropriate primary flame-resistant personal protective equipment is worn underneath. It may also help reduce the level of body burns that can occur when only primary flame-resistant garments are worn.

The coverall design features a respirator-fit hood with a covered elasticated face opening, taped seams and a double storm flap with double-sided adhesive tape, creating reliable seals that help prevent potential chemical ingress. A chin flap with double-sided adhesive tape provides enhanced protection in the neck area and a secure fit around the respirator. In addition, the polyamide zipper with metal puller makes donning and doffing easier. Elastic at the waist and covered elastic at the wrists and ankles ensure comfort and ease of movement.

The coverall is made from a patented multilayer fabric that combines a film with chemical-barrier properties and a Tyvek substrate, a material based on high-density polyethylene. Alongside high-level protection against more than 250 chemicals, this structure incorporates special secondary flame-retardant properties certified to EN ISO 14116 Index 1.
