ABB integrates Machine Automation into Process Automation
Following the divestment of its Robotics division to the SoftBank Group, ABB has commenced the transfer of its Machine Automation division – previously part of the Robotics & Discrete Automation business area – into the Process Automation business unit, a transition that will take effect in the fourth quarter of 2025. Through this integration, customers will benefit from more appropriate technological synergies that combine automation, electrification and digitalisation, thanks to a unified and comprehensive portfolio. The integration builds upon Machine Automation's heritage within ABB, which included the acquisition of B&R in 2017, now the central core of the division.
Concurrent with this operation, Florian Schneeberger, who has served as Chief Technology Officer of the Machine Automation division since 2022, has been appointed president of the Machine Automation division, succeeding Joerg Theis, who has chosen to pursue new professional opportunities outside the company. "Machine Automation boasts deep expertise in the automation of machines and plants – capabilities that integrate perfectly with ABB's strengths in process and hybrid sectors," declared the newly-appointed president of the Machine Automation division. "Thanks to pioneering technologies developed and manufactured in Eggelsberg, we are committed to delivering truly distinctive solutions for customers worldwide, helping them to operate more efficiently and sustainably."
