Sidel strengthens its presence in Africa
Sidel has opened a new office in Lagos, Nigeria, to strengthen its presence in West Africa. The new headquarters will serve as a regional hub for project management, technical services, after-sales support and customer interactions, bringing the company closer to customers operating not only in Nigeria but also in Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire and other neighbouring markets.
The Lagos office is Sidel's third location on the African continent, following the South Africa office and the Nairobi hub. Together, these key resources reflect Sidel's continued commitment to customer proximity, skills development and sustainable growth throughout the region. The Lagos facility will also focus on developing local know-how in technical design and services to strengthen customer support and promote the creation of new jobs.
"West Africa is the most dynamic and promising consumer market on the African continent," stated Clive Smith, Executive Vice President, Africa, Oceania & Asia at Sidel. "Developing a strong presence in Lagos helps us better understand customer needs, respond more quickly to requests and offer customised solutions for PET, glass and cans for consumers in this region."
"We are investing in proximity and long-term growth in Nigeria and West Africa," explained Pietro Cassani, President and CEO of Sidel. "We have decided to expand further because we believe that sustainable industrial development must be achieved through local partnerships, local talent and continuous innovation across all packaging materials – PET, cans and glass."
Nigeria is Africa's largest economy and the continent's largest consumer market with over 230 million inhabitants. In 2024, the Nigerian food and beverage market was worth $54.1 billion and is forecast to grow at a CAGR of approximately 6% through to 2033. In West Africa, consumption trends are shifting towards healthier beverages, premium products and sustainable packaging. This phenomenon is fuelling demand for multiple formats, such as lightweight PET bottles.
